Don't judge me . ... or anyone else.

Pamela Geller calls pro-gun control judicial activist Judge Sonia Sotomayor an incompetent radical. Her Princeton graduate legal theses included: Undying Injustice: American "Exceptionalism" and Permanent Bigotry, and Deadly Obsession: American Gun Culture.
http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2009/05/radical-on-the-scotus.html

Thomas Sowell identifies Judge Sotomayor's empathy for certain groups of Americans a 'poisonous doctrine', and notes the judge herself has made several statements including,"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.” Sowell further points out that this kind of empathy would for all practical purposes repeal the 14th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which guarantees “equal protection of the laws” to all Americans.

See for yourself here how Judge So-so-lawmaker in her own words believes that as a Court of Appeals Judge she is a 'policy maker, even though that isn't right'. http://theblogprof.blogspot.com/2009/05/sotomayor-gun-ownership-is.html

Nice work. Abandoning basic components of democracy like fairness and equality will erode this culture faster than anything else could. Atlas says the Republicans better 'man up' and block this nutjob's appointment to the Supreme Court. Let's hope that they do.

Walk around with the Calgary City Police

Rick Bell, columnist for the Calgary Sun, does a 'walk around' with the new beat cops downtown. Sgt Bob McLeod, a real cop (one who's been hauled on the carpet for being too aggressive at least once) tours 'Dinger' around the city core.

the two latest 'head shots' of radical islam.

From the front:

Hasibullah Sadiqi - 23 year old Afghani-Canadian states 'he was provoked' when he shot his sister and her fiance to death with a 44 magnum that wasn't his, he was just "holding it for a friend". Hasi-bo-bo has refused direction from the judge to disclose who he got the gun from. Closing arguments on the case, stemming from the Sept 19, 2006 honor killing, begin tomorrow.
http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/Accused+rage+interrupted+passing+Crown+tells+Sadiqi+honour+killing+trial/1629206/story.html

From the side:

Youssouf Fofana - 28 year old ringlead of 'gang of barbarians' who kidnapped and tortured Ilan Halimi, a young French Jew who was finally stabbed and set on fire after being held for 24 days. Fo-fo-fana and his 26 accomplices are on trial in France, a trial that has been closed to the public since April 29, 2009. The French magazine 'Choc' ('Shock') has been ordered off the newstands for publishing the picture of Ilan with his face wrapped in duct tape, a gun to his head.

This face of islam is where the crosshairs go. Exhale, relax . . ... squeeze gently.

From my lips to God's ear.

Coincidence.

It's nice to see something you suggested to your Father-in-Law over Bar-B-Que on the back deck on Saturday appear in print the next week.

Letter to Hon. Lee Richardson M.P.

Dear Lee,

I see you've been busy!

Saw you attended Ezra Levant's bi-partisan human rights event, he's doing great things for Canada with his book, "Shakedown". I hope you purchased a copy, and read it with the same disgust and disbelief in the proceedings he was subjected to as I did. Ezra deserves a medal for his work, and his description of running into Jennifer Lynch in the elevator was hilarious! I hope to see more of his 'Stand Up and Shake Down' routine soon!

Your insight on the refugee issue is invaluable, how do you think the Charter is working to protect Canadians from these claimants who are criminals? Seems like having them become defacto Canucks until their claims are resolved is overly generous of us.

Hang in there with Mr Mulroney, he may not have been perfect, but he was still P.M.
It's disappointing to see him dragged through the commission, but at the same time disturbing to see how the tax system was manipulated. As my sitting M.P., I still count on you to look forward more than backward - the relationships in caucus are important to smooth functioning of our Government. It would be a damn crime to see another Liberal or coalition gov't as a result of weakness on our team.

Used the link on your home page to send an encouraging letter to the troops today.

Keep up the good work.

Canada minister blasts 'dangerous' leftist-Islamist anti-Semitism
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1087973.html

At least somebody gets it. As Israel goes, so goes Western Civilization. Minister Kenny, speaking in Israel at the close of his trip, recognizes "profoundly undemocratic forces" aligning Western Leftists with Jihadi Psychopaths could be the end of our freedom and culture.

Jason spearheaded keeping Canada out of Durban II, sent George Galloway packing, and now with his speech in Israel has scored a hat trick against the Islamist Devils. Time for the rest of use to grab our sticks and pull a shift.

Hi Don

There has been allot of confusion on this topic. We are not removing the Fox News channel or censoring any channel including this one. Like many channels if Canadians want to drop the channel the choice is 100% with the customer.

We certainly love to provide the best value and service to you and our customers. In fact we enjoy it and will continue to add more channels and will also launch Interactive TV free to our customers in late July

Thanks for your comments

Hello Don,

Shaw Direct will not be removing Fox News from its channel lineup. We are enabling customers to make the choice if they would like to receive it. We’ve made changes to how we offer Fox News channel 503. The recent inappropriate and disrespectful comments on the channel regarding the Canadian Military’s efforts in Afghanistan comments were found to be offensive to many customers. Because of this, many Digital Favourites and FYI subscribers have expressed concern over not having an option to remove FOX News from their line-up. We are moving the channel to an opt-in service starting May 19.

Because of the way the system is set up, we require people who wish to continue receiving the channel to contact us to reactivate it. Currently we have no plans to remove the channel from our lineup. We did want to continue offering the channel to those customers who wanted it which is why it is now an opt in channel rather than being removed completely.

We are unable to locate your account with the information you have provided to us. We would like to add the opt-in code to your account now so you will not miss any of FOX News's programming. If you could please respond with your account number, primary phone number or service address, we can then do so.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. Please include any previous correspondence with your replies.
Thank you for choosing Shaw Direct & have a great day,

Today is Friday, and I'm wearing my red shirt, as well my Canadian Forces wristband.
There are two 'Support Our Troops' magnets on my truck, and I have 'O Canada' tattoo'd on my leg.

I pay my taxes, am a Canadian citizen, and I shouldn't have to remind you (as a public broadcaster) that Section 2(b) of the Charter states that "Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms: ... freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication."

Whoever made the decision to pull Fox news out of the lineup has to be able to justify it with more than just the comments you refer to. As offensive as they were, the opportunity for free speech and public debate in a democracy are at stake. You want my opinion on what's offensive on the Shaw lineup?

How about 'Muslim Insight', starring radical Imam Syed Sowahardy! Perhaps you're unaware of his history, and would pull his show off the air if you did. More likely though, your actions are guided by the usual left-wing, elitist 'we know what's good for you' thinking that currently dominates public policy decisions in some large corporations. I suggest that rather than being 'pro-active and passionately defending our men and women in the Canadian Armed Forces', you're just afraid. Your cute little slogan at the bottom of the email is apparently an empty promise for your customers and staff.

You dishonor the efforts of serving Canadian soldiers, and disgrace the men and women who've given their lives to defend this country. Free speech in a democracy means allowing opinions you don't agree with, even if you have to defend your actions to those customers with 'hurt feelings'. If you've given up the right to free speech because you're afraid you'll lose some customers, then shame on you. Members of the Taliban are shooting at our troops, and you think they're upset because an idiot disc-jockey made those weak-ass comments? His right to make those comments is exactly what they're fighting for!

Here's hoping you come to your senses in the near future. Maybe watch 'The View' a couple of times, although keep a barf bag handy. Drop by Glen Beck's website for some insight into the hatchet job Barbara and Whoopi did on him this week when he was a 'guest' on their show. You want to make real Canadians happy? Block 'The View' from our view.

Don Sharpe

ps. You can't find my account, when I gave you all of the above (deleted on this post) and my cell number? Sounds more like you didn't try very hard.
I have always been impressed with you product and service, including telephone and field service staff. Thank you for taking the time to seriously consider my reply.

Latest Muslim honor killer says, "I was provoked."

While Khatera Sadiqi and her fiance Feroz Mangal now lay in their graves, her brother Hasibullah Sadiqi is trying to wiggle out of the charge he murdered them.

Hasi-boo-boo was apparently upset the engagement of his 20 year old sister and her 23 year old boyfriend wasn't 'traditionally muslim' enough, so he decided to ambush them in their car at 1 a.m. on Sept 16, 2006. He is charged with shooting them both with a large calibre handgun.
http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/Sadiqi+troubled+sister+engagement+before+killing+trial+hears/1596382/story.html

"Lawyers representing Sadiqi don’t deny that their client is responsible for the deaths, but are expected to argue there was provocation, which could reduce a murder charge to manslaughter if certain legal requirements are met."

Are they kidding? Hard to believe that any sane lawyer is going to argue that a young Canadian girl provoked her brother enough to justify shooting her to death.

Maybe the belief in the cult of multi-cult will sway the jury. God, I hope not.

This trial will no doubt have an profound effect on the trial of another young Canadian girl's family later this year. Aqsa Parvez's father and brother are both accused of being involved in her 'honor killing' death by strangulation on Dec 10, 2007. Aqsa, for so dishonoring her family, now lies in unmarked grave #774 in Lot 17, in Brampton's Meadowvale Cemetery. The site remains unmarked as per the family's wishes, a fitting end, they feel, for a 'dishonored daughter'.

Words fail me. Cross examination continues tomorrow.

It's time for The League of Democracies.

It's been over a year since I've heard anyone mention the 'League of Democracies' first suggested by John McCain in the U.S. Presidential election.

City Journal, in their Spring 2009 issue - http://www.city-journal.org/2009/19_2_UN-human-rights-council.html - illustrate clearly how badly we need to enable a legitimate 'League of Democracies', in order to counterbalance the singular vision of the so-called 'U.N. Human Rights Council'.

The HRC, which was hijacked by the Islamic member states of the U.N. in March 2008, opposed by both the U.S. and Israel, has turned a blind eye to legitimate atrocities world wide, while pursuing a fatwa against blasphamy of Islam.

If western culture hesitates to defend itself from this attempt to weaken all secular democracies, it may soon be too late. Pulling our support from the U.N. and using that funding to create a League of Democracies' could be our best shot at defending our way of life.

93 arrested in downtown Calgary

With another 100 possibly facing charges as well.
http://www.calgaryherald.com/entertainment/movie-guide/Downtown+drug+sweep+results+arrests/1597172/story.html

Police made the arrests last week, resulting from over 400 undercover drug buys in the past 2 1/2 months, with most suspects being charged with only a couple of counts related to possession and sale of crack cocaine. It's a good start to Chief Rick Hansen's promise to take back the streets, and as many of the busts were probably made by new recruits 'cutting their teeth', it's a good start all around.

Chief Hansen shows he's got what it takes, promising to 'make downtown unpleasant for those who make downtown unpleasant'. With 62 officers being assigned the downtown beat full time starting May 27, - http://www.calgaryherald.com/entertainment/movie-guide/officers+added+downtown/1595393/story.html - Calgarians should see a marked reduction in the drug dealing and aggressive panhandling that blights the city center daily.

Well-known Canadian imam issues fatwa against Taliban
http://www.canada.com/news/Well+known+Canadian+imam+issues+fatwa+against+Taliban/1601931/story.html

Really? Syed calls the Taliban 'unislamic', possessing an 'ideaology of hate' and is collecting donations for refugees from the Swat in Pakistan. It's a seemingly selfless and pro-western stance that has many of his detractors scratching their heads and wondering, "Just what is he up to now?"

After years of loose-cannon agitating, during which Mr Soharwardy did more damage than anything else for his cause, "Sideshow Syed" seems to have come to his senses.
Could this be another 'hudna', allowing the imam to regroup and rearm for another assault on Canadian freedom, similar to his recent failed attempt to "Shakedown" Ezra Levant?

On the surface, Syed seems to be sincere. The article certainly seems to ring true, when read on it's own and ignoring the many contradictory statements published about the author in the past. We remember it was little more than a year ago the Calgary Herald editorial board had to remind him of his statements supporting the institution of sharia law here in Canada. http://www2.canada.com/calgaryherald/news/theeditorialpage/story.html?id=5162d29c-ffe4-4f4a-8d25-fe5e097c0963

So let's give Syed a chance. Keeping in mind that a dog that's bitten once before, will always be a dog that bites. No matter how many kids pet him.

What I'm reading now

Ezra Levant's "Shakedown"

What is a Right? What is a Freedom? Is there a difference?

"Shakedown" is the revealing story of Canada's federal and provincial so-called 'human rights commissions'. The bigger issue was uncovered as a result of Levant's refusal to back down after being accused of 'hate speech' when he published the famous Danish cartoons of Mohamed on February 13, 2006. Page after page reveals the abuses of due process and the spirit of the original Magna Carta committed on a daily basis by the quasi-judical commission.

Levant's naivete of the commissions wide powers of warrant-less search and seizure when first notified of the hand-written complaint from a local imam is touching. Ezra's long history in politics and the law make his a sympathetic figure when confronted with a 'kangaroo court' that can ignore all regular rules of evidence and testimony found in a real court of Canadian law. His story of how his initial 'faith in the system' is almost destroyed, and it's resurrection on the internet as a result of his intial videotaped interrogation (100,000 views in 2 days on youtube.com) is entertaining and enlightening.

There is no mistaking that Ezra Levant is angry. The detailing in "Shakedown' of the farcical decisions made by federal and provincial hrc's will make any fair-minded reader angry as well. The initial "Shakedown" occurred when Ezra was offered a settlement by the hrc that demanded he pay a cash bounty to the imam and hijacking a rebuttal in Ezra's 'Western Standard' magazine. Many of Ezra's feelings about the hrc's have been echoed by politicians on both sides of the House of Commons, and a groundswell of public opinion along with 4 separate criminal investigations of the hrc's conduct has make it a very uncomfortable year for the members of this $200 million/year grievance machine.

Ezra's committed to 'denormalizing' these 'hijacked rights commissions', and his well reasoned argument that freedom of speech and public debate include the right to be left alone by politicized government bureaucracies are enough to convince any reasonable adult. Ezra's story reads like a Grimm's fable, with Ezra the initially unwilling hero facing legions of dark knights and an evil sorceress in a romote castle. With only his 'sword of truth' to defend himself and the villagers, it's still not clear who the real victor will be. "Shakedown" demonstrates that it is frightenly real, that the stakes are very high, and that losing this fight will damage democracy in Canada for years to come.

The book marries very well with the daily blog, ezralevant.com, where the same all out, "off with their heads!" attack on those who would curtail one of our basic freedoms continues.

Tamil Roadkill

Garnering sympathy for a cause can be tricky.

Often the type of protest tells Canadians more than the actual message the protesters are trying to impart. By their sheer numbers, Toronto Tamils have garnered national attention. Still, I'll bet 7 out of 10 Canadians couldn't tell you where Sri Lanka is, and fewer still could give you any details of the Tamil Tiger's cause.

By blocking one of the busiest highways in Ontario with their families and children, any sympathy they may have received from the average Canadian has evaporated. But then, they aren't appealing to those of us who aren't members of the Liberal elite, who now choose to use this opportunity to gather a voting base. It also shouldn't surprise anyone that the Tamils chose a 'soft target' like a highway on Mothers Day. They certainly wouldn't choose to block a Rock concert or Football game, knowing that a large percentage of attendees would just as soon choose to respond with their fists than stand idly by and wait for the protesters to disperse.

By the same token, that average Canadian, who over the past 30 years has abdicated all of his responsibilities in health care, child care, elder care, crime control, education, free speech etc. to the state, sat in their cars and allowed this to happen. If the protesters, whose group has been labeled a 'terrorist organization' by the Canadian Government, knew that 50% of the cars they blocked on the Gardiner Expressway contained people who would get out of their cars and fight back, they'd no doubt choose a diffent venue.

Yes, it's terrible what's happening in Sri Lanka. But this isn't Canada's fight. This war is too big, it's too far away, and although it's an increasingly small world, Canadian's aren't the world's janitors. Canada continues to lobby for peace, not just there but in dozens of countries around the world.

This country has offered to do everything for citizens who should be doing those things for themselves, and now have a passive populous who'll stand by waiting for the police to use watercannons and pepper-spray, then stand by again while the liberal social engineers wail that the Police reponse was excessive. This 'dose of reality' won't by enough to wake anyone in Ontario up, but maybe the next protest will.

Canadians need to draw the line when it comes to the actions of protest groups. I dream of the day the local Muslim Radicals with their Hezbolla flags block traffic at the Calgary Stampede on the last day of the World Finals Rodeo, rather than the 'soft target' of Glenmore Landing shopping center on a Saturday afternoon. A dose of 'Cowboy Justice' would deliver a message they'd remember for a long time.

What I'm reading now

"The Right Mistake" by Walter Mosley.

"Who do you see when you look in the mirror?"...."Do you see a black man in the reflection or is the first thing you think, that's me in the glass?"....We all locked up away from each other and from ourselves, talkin' 'bout I'm this and he's that. But when we look in the mirror the cell come open. The lock break and all that bullshit go right out the door."

Socrates Fortlow is a now 'freed' longtime felon, whose world view is immaculate in it's compassion and wisdom - either in spite of, or because of, his history.

He can't leave his cell behind in his mind. Socrates needs nothing from anyone to survive, and yet he manages almost by accident to reach out and gather together the members of his diverse urban community.

Walter Mosley created the 'Easy Rawlins' character, and demonstates his talents again with this worthwhile read.

Pointing out the Obvious

I can see some things that should be obvious to everyone.

This forum presenting my opinions will create public debate, broaden my worldview and be part of my role as a Canadian citizen. These are important points of free speech and public communication in a democracy.

Here's my thoughts, what I consider to be obvious truth in chaotic and misguided world. I haven't been everywhere, and haven't considered everything.

Having the good fortune to be born and raised in Canada, with fresh air and good drinking water, I can begin with appreciating what I have. I can walk to the store without fear of being shot at. That's not the way it is everywhere else in the world.

While I believe 'the best of us' have a responsibility to 'the rest of us', we also have a responsibility to maintain our highly successful culture.

Amid accusations that we aren't 'fair' enough, or 'tolerant' enough, I'll counter that life isn't fair and that people shouldn't expect it to be. Confident that natural justice and human emotions balance each other out, all efforts to change a culture to make it more 'fair', are naturally doomed to fail. Basic truths will always bear out, and ignoring these fundamental building blocks in a free society will forcast it's destruction.

Hard work, resilience in the face of adversity, and acceptance of the basic concepts of democracy trump hurt feelings, tolerance and diversity. Save your whining for someone who cares. Suck it up, set your goals and get to work. Don't tell me how to think, how to feel, or what opinions I can have.

So let me take out my Sharpe Stick, and point out the obvious.
